Flight of the Fireflies – “Atmospheric journey through places and emotions” [iPad, Games]

Flight of the Fireflies – Trailer from Jonathan Hise Kaldma on Vimeo.

“The fireflies are leaving the city, looking for a new home. Let your touch guide them as they soar through the skies and dance among the trees” is the description of an experimental video game ‘Flight of the Fireflies’ by Jonathan Hise Kaldma that takes you on an atmospheric journey through places and emotions. The focus of the game is not on the challenge – but on the experience. The game lets the player guide a swarm of fireflies with their finger. Each firefly is a separate note in a score that is generated dynamically while you play. As you collect fireflies, the music builds up and becomes more and more intricate. The game is divided into five chapters, with environments made from photographs taken in and around Stockholm, Sweden.

Karaoke Breathalyzer

geniale!

Bar Aurora & Boteco Ferraz present “Karaoke Breathalyzer”. To increase awareness about drunk driving, we created the world’s first microphone breathalyzer and invited people to sing karaoke. Once up on stage, with their guard down, we took them by surprise. At the end of each song, we didn’t show their score, we showed their alcohol blood level.

Diego Stocco – Improv on a Plate

ormai un must!

Diego Stocco – Improv on a Plate from Diego Stocco on Vimeo.

I was about to cut a chocolate cake and when I moved the plate on the countertop I noticed a very interesting sound.
One side of the plate was free to vibrate because the tiles were not perfectly even, so by applying pressure with one finger and tapping it with another I was able to create some tonal beats.
I hope you’ll enjoy it!
The recording setup was very simple, Røde NT5, Apogee ONE, Pro Tools 9.

Previously collaborated with Lab[au] on Tessel (see detailed post on CAN), Versus consisting of two kinetic sculptures placed face to face in a space. Each sculpture is made out of 12 triangular panels, hinged and powered by six linear actuators, controlled by a custom software. At the center of each corolla, a loudspeaker and a microphone allow to play and record sounds.

Diego Stocco – Luminopiano Preview

diego stocco is incredible!!

Diego Stocco – Luminopiano Preview from Diego Stocco on Vimeo.

Recently I got invited to present my work at the Art of Music in Santa Monica, CA bit.ly/x2lwwI
While I was there I previewed my new custom built instrument, the Luminopiano.
It’s an instrument based on eight lightbulbs, with a microphone carefully placed inside each one. By tapping the lightbulb, the internal filament vibrates and makes a very nice sound, and each one sounds different because of the size of the filament and placement of the microphone.
As soon as I’ll have a chance I’ll create a full video and post more details, for now I hope you’ll enjoy this preview : )

Fol Chen – The Tetrafol

_TETRAFOL SOUND_

Fol Chen – The Tetrafol from Asthmatic Kitty on Vimeo.

The Tetrafol is a hand-held tangible electronic sound toy. Circuits enclosed by a wooden tetrahedron detect orientation and motion-gestures to modify the playback of a collection of Fol Chen’s micro-compositions, allowing the user to explore sound through physical manipulation.
The battery-powered device has its own internal speaker but can additionally be hooked up to a headphone or amplifier.
The circuit and firmware are based on open-source hardware and is itself published as open-source, allowing anyone interested to learn about its deepest inner-workings.

Our latest collaboration with Jane Grant, John Matthias and Nick Ryan the creators of The Fragmented Orchestra, is a site specfic installation ‘Plasticity’ at the BFI for onedotzero.

The installation consisted of an array of microphones distributed across the entrance of the space and a network of speakers, arranged across the walls. The network comes alive in direct response to visitor input into the
